Simulation tests EU feed sector resilience to adverse weather event

What would happen in the feed and meat markets of the European Union (EU) if the world oilseed market was hit by a damaging weather event?

While the EU is generally more self-sufficient in grains, it continues to rely heavily on imports of proteins for livestock feeds.

Included in the latest Agriculture Outlook report for 2024-35 from the European Commission are the results of a simulation to assess the likely impacts on EU markets of a possible future adverse weather event on global oilseed production. The model also looked at how projected improvements in feed efficiency and production of protein-rich crops would affect the trading bloc’s resilience to such a market shock.
