Organised by Provet, the distributor for AB Vista feed ingredients in Switzerland, the seminar was attended by 25 delegates representing all of the major feed producing companies in the country.

The second provisional estimates of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board/Home Grown Cereals Authority's 2013 Cereal Quality Survey show an improvement in Great Britain wheat and barley quality. These estimates support the results released in September.

Cargill earnings drop 41 percent in fiscal ’14 1st quarter

Cargill reported net earnings of $571 million in the fiscal 2014 first quarter, down 41 percent from last year's record quarter of $975 million. First-quarter revenues of $33.8 billion matched the year-ago period.

IFIF elects 2014–2015 chairman, board of directors

Delegates at the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF)'s 26th General Assembly unanimously re-elected Mario Sergio Cutait as chairman for the 2014-2015 term, recognizing Cutait's leadership since 2012, according to reports. "Through our efforts and partnerships we have positively impacted the environmental footprint, the international regulatory framework, the efficiency and the image of our industry," said Cutait.

FDA withdraws 98 of 101 arsenic-based animal drug approvals

In a letter responding to a petition brought by nine major health and environmental organizations, on September 30, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it will withdraw 98 of 101 approvals given to arsenic-based animal drugs. This action will remove three of the four arsenic-containing drugs used in the production of poultry and hogs.

Peruvian government raises anchovy quota

The Peruvian government has increased the anchovy quota for the second fishing season starting in November, a move that has been welcomed by IFFO (the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation), the international marine ingredients trade organization. According to the Peruvian Ministry of Production, the industrial anchovy fishing quota for the north-central fishing area will be 2.3 million metric tons for the November 2013 to January 2014 fishing season.
