Vaccination of domestic pigs against African swine fever (ASF) is scheduled to start in the Philippines at the end of this week. This is just one of the measures aiming to halt the recent large spike in new outbreaks of the disease, which now affects 15 of the nation’s 17 regions.

From cases in 60 communities in eight regions in mid-July, 15 regions now have ongoing outbreaks in a total of 458 communities. This is according to the latest update on the disease situation from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI; dated August 21).
