ASF threat remains concern after changes to British import checks

While welcomed by one farming organization in Great Britain, another continues to express concerns over recent changes to border controls for high-risk animal products.

At the end of April, the government of the United Kingdom (U.K.) introduced revisions to processes for the importation of food, animal and plant products.

According to the announcement by the department Defra, the changes were made in order to improve national biosecurity, building on existing safeguarding health measures. ASF was cited as an example of a disease that is widespread in some European countries, and could be devastating to the British pig industry.
