H5N1 in dairy herd spurs new biosecurity protocols, technologies

With the recent emergence of H5N1 virus in dairy cattle herds in the U.S., more agricultural producers are taking note of biosecurity standards and improving their protocols to prevent disease spread.

“While the swine and poultry sectors have for years been very attentive to the idea of strict biosecurity entry protocols, the dairy industry has not had to implement similar procedures to date,” said Mark Beaven, president of Ethoguard, a company that provides the agricultural sector with biosecurity solutions. “However, the H5N1 situation has definitely been an eye-opener for the dairy industry.”
